TRAVEL EDIT: A review of the Peligoni Club

TRAVEL EDIT: A review of the Peligoni Club

In the Summer of 2023 our family of 4 headed off to The Peligoni Club in Zakynthos for 2 weeks in July.

I had spent weeks trying to find the perfect family friendly holiday destination that would work for a then 7 month old and a just turned 2 year old! There are direct flights on Ryanair from Dublin to Zante, and once you make it past all the party-goers, you travel to the remote part of the island where The Peligoni Club is situated.

I trawled the internet looking at reviews of places similar to the Sani and Ikos resorts, independent family friends hotels, and then I came across The Peligoni Club from Millie Mackintosh’s instagram (who we ended up meeting there that summer!).

The Peligoni Club is a different concept compared to most all inclusive family resorts, in this case you rent a villa for either a week or two through the club, and then additionally you pay club membership fees on top: £265 per adult per week per adult, and free for children under 4 years of age. Children 4 years old and above are £450 per week. These prices are applicable for high season, low season (May, June, September and October) have lower prices.

We signed up in advance for the creche which is for kids up to 3 years of age (for an additional fee of £600 per week). Both the 7 month old and 2 year old loved it. The club along with the creche had lots of lovely Irish girls working there, which was a nice sense of home! It was the first time I had left either of my kids in a creche environment, but the creche girls were great, letting me take the kids in and out as I pleased, and also keeping me updated on how the kids were via WhatsApp. Fresh food was cooked for lunch and dinner, as well as fresh baby food for Riley who was newly weaned. They had a bedroom with lots of clean cots available, however we took our kids back to the villa for 2 hour naps! And some chill time for myself and James.

There are many types of villas to choose from, of all various sizes, types and prices. We chose a 3 bedroom bungalow which worked really well for our family. In the weeks leading up to our holiday, the Peligoni Club staff were in contact with us regarding groceries for the villa upon arrival, and also what ‘petit peligoni’ items we would want to pre-book. There are so many baby essentials to choose from like cots, high chairs, baby baths, toys, etc! It’s a really great service. I made sure to bring baby formula and pack my own nappies (the nappies were super expensive on the island).

The Peligoni club has 2 restaurants and a bar. All of the restaurants had child friendly options, as well as kids menus. The Club is famous for having BBQs and guest chef experiences a few times a week. These are held in the courtyard area, and kids are also welcomed! There is a babysitting service, using the creche staff, and you are entitled to two babysitting evenings per week. The kids knew the babysitters at this point from creche, and it made us comfortable to leave them to do bath and bedtime!

The Peligoni Club is so family friendly, but there is also lots to do for the adults too! As well as guest chefs they also have guest fitness instructors each week. These could be anyone from yoga teachers to more intense HIIT trainers and influencers. I think this is what makes the Peligoni so inclusive for each member of the family. There is also an option to upgrade your villa membership to a waterspouts package, which allows you to take advantage of all of the sailing, water skiing, etc the club has to offer.

There were a few downsides to this holiday, including that renting a car was almost a necessity. While there were transfers to and from the airport, most of the villas are situated 2-15 minutes from the club. So this was another added cost. Another negative was that everything was an added cost, you prepay for your villa, memberships and creche spots, but once the trip is over you have all of your food and drinks bills to pay for!

We really did love every other aspect of the trip though. There were lovely families staying at the Club (mostly English, but some Irish), the weather was great, there was an onsite medical team for any issues there kids were having, and so much more that I’m probably forgetting!

All in all we really enjoyed our trip, we were due to go back in June of 2024 however Scottie was to be born that April so we postponed to June 2025. We made some lovely friends who we have kept in contact with, and who we will see again this coming June!
